Nick Borghini runs cross country for the Altus Bulldogs and has been having a great season heading into October. Borghini started competing in cross country back in junior high and was initially inspired to join the sport because of his father’s encouragement.
“I was inspired to start running because my dad was a good runner when he was younger,” Borghini said.
Borghini is proud of the way he and his teammates have been competing this season and the success they have achieved.
“This season has gone great,” Borghini said. “Our varsity team is very strong and I am optimistic about our chances to place well at state. Coach Reyna and coach Patterson have done a great job training the team.”
Reflecting upon the season thus far, Borghini said that winning the Anadarko Meet stands out as a high point for this season for both he and the Bulldogs.
Cross country has provided Borghini many valuable lessons that he can apply to aspects of his everyday life and will carry with him for many years to come.
“I have learned the value of hard work and pushing through pain to reach my goals,” Borghini said. “My determination to improve as a runner has translated to every aspect of my life.”
Borghini appreciates the support he has received from his friends, family, and teammates in the Altus community.
“I consider Calvin Wagoner to be a role model for me,” Borghini said. “He was a senior when I was a freshman and always pushed me to get better. Even after he graduated we kept in contact and he even made my summer training program. He has helped me improve not only as a runner, but also as a person.”
As Borghini nears the end of his high school career he is beginning to plan for the future. Borghini said that his favorite subject in school is English and that he would attend college to further his education.
“After high school I plan to go to either the University of New Mexico or Cameron University to get a degree in film and digital arts. I love filmmaking and hope to make it a lifelong career.”
