Steph Sterling has been playing basketball since he was four years old and is a basketball player in the truest sense of the word.
Sterling approaches the court the same way that an artist approaches a canvas. It is an open opportunity for him to create and make things happen. Sterling sees the game as an opportunity for creativity and competition.
“My favorite part of the game is the art of scoring,” Sterling said.
Sterling uses his speed and quick first step to get to the basket in a hurry. Combine that with tight handles and good court vision and you have a great downhill guard.
“I feel like I’m best at driving to the rim and making smart decisions off the dribble whether it’s for me or my teammates,” Sterling said.
However, Sterling has been working on expanding his game, too. Sterling’s goal this year is to become a more rounded offensive player that can score at all three levels with effective efficiency and keep defenders on their heels.
“I’ve been working on improving my deep ball shot,” Sterling said, “also shooting off the dribble and pull up jumpers.”
One player that Sterling looks up to for inspiration is NBA superstar Kevin Durant. Sterling admires Durant’s scoring capabilities and ability to create shots for himself anywhere on the floor and has been working hard to add those same elements to his own game.
Over the years Sterling has had many memorable moments on the court but one moment stands above the rest.
“My proudest accomplishment was being able to play a great game in front of (Orlando Magic guard) RJ Hampton,” Sterling said.
After high school, Sterling wants to continue his playing career at the next level and further his education. Aside from playing basketball in college Sterling said that he wants to work toward a career in real estate.
