Anadarko basketball player Jakobi Tallent recently spoke to VYPE in an interview.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for this year are to maintain a 4.0 GPA, and win state in basketball.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is probably the time i first dunked.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
I can’t pick just one teammate, but Jordan Cange, Trenton Walker, and Jaylen Passi help me better myself everyday. Going into practice and getting to compete against those guys helps us get better, as well as everyone around us. It helps others see what it means to compete. With that said, everyone on the team pushes each other everyday, and we wouldn’t be the team we are today without each other.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on this team is that i’m surrounded by people who want to win, and people who will work hard regardless of what people say or think.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I don’t know if I’d consider it community service because i enjoyed it so much, but I coached a little league football team this past season, and look forward to doing it again next year.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’m involved with the National Honor Society. I’m able to be a part of this group because of my grades throughout my career.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Something my sport has taught me is that you can find something to use as motivation in any situation, and you always should. Something else it’s taught me is that no matter what happens, you have to keep your head up and keep moving forward.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
My dad always tells me to “be the hardest working person there” and I take that with me everyday, and everywhere.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Someone who inspires me is my dad. He was a state champion in high school wrestling, and i want to be able to do the same in basketball. Outside of sports, he’s always kind, helpful, and supportive. I look up to him everyday.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Thank you to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All glory to God, I wouldn’t be able to do anything without The Lord. Shouts out to Wallys Photography for the photo! Also, thank you to my girlfriend, Brianna, who is my biggest supporter.
