Weatherford High School junior, Harlie Chism, has played nearly every sport you can
imagine growing up. Now a member of the varsity softball team, Chism is excited to be
playing with this current group at Weatherford High.
“I enjoyed wrestling, baseball, and basketball. I didn’t start playing softball until I was
around 10 years old. I’ve always had a strong passion for it however, because my mom and
my sister were huge role models for me. The relationships that I have with my teammates
is what I love the most. I have made friendships that will last me a lifetime and learned to
lead in a different way than I’ve known before,” said Chism.
As a student-athlete, Chism said she is involved in STUCO, Early Bird Readers, and FCA.
“I don’t necessarily have a favorite subject, but my favorite teacher is Kaleb Fischer, who is
also my track coach. He finds ways to know his students and athletes on a more personal
level than any other coach I’ve known. He supports you on your decisions, but never fails to
tell you when you’re making a mistake. He has always been a role model for me on what
kind of person I aspire to be in life,” said Chism. “Weatherford provides me with the
coaching staffs and variety of classes that I need to be successful in life. The facilities are
growing as well as the opportunities. We have a very supportive community in all athletics,
and you are more than just a student athlete to your coaches and teachers.”
Coming into the new season, Chism and her teammates are focused on one goal.
“Redemption. My team and I were district champions last year and got to host District 4A-1
Regionals. We were set up for the road to state. However, we fell short, and knowing my
girls, we are eager to play on Marita Hynes Field and make Weatherford softball history,”
said Chism.
Once her prep playing days come to an end, Chism said she would like to attend college and
eventually coach.
“I haven’t decided on a major, but I would like to be on the path of coaching, working with
athletes, or strength and conditioning in some type of way,” said Chism.
