Altus Area Teacher Spotlight
Jeremy Reed
In his first season back at Altus High School, Jeremy Reed is taking over the Altus Bulldog football program after coaching at the next level for a short time. Reed will serve the school district as an Instructional Coach, giving Reed the opportunity to work with teachers and coaches at all Altus Public School sites.
“I knew when going into small college coaching it was a two-year window in the position I was in due to salary. The timing just fell correctly that Altus was looking for a new head coach and our family was looking for a place to settle down where I could coach my two boys. Other opportunities were available but the love we have for the community of Altus won over the decision easily,” said Reed.
That same community has welcomed coach Reed and his new staff.
“I’ve had the privilege to coach in many towns, nothing compares to the pride that Altus has for the Bulldogs. The community of Altus supports anything that is related to the Bulldogs, not just football. But if the football team is winning you can’t find a better game atmosphere than “The Rock” on a Friday night,” said Reed.
A few additions to the coaching staff has everyone excited to see what the team can do this year.
“Very fortunate to hire some great coaches to our staff. Craig Hubbard will be our defensive coordinator; he was with me at Yukon. Erick Wren will be our offensive coordinator/OL coach. Erick played at University of Oklahoma and has coached both at the NCAA and NFL levels. Jayden Benway who played for me in 2014-15 is coming back home after coaching at Lawton MacArthur. Braden Jones is from Hobart and played five years at SNU, he will coach offensive line. John Henson will coach our defensive line, he played at Bethel College where I coached in 2021. Maureese Wren will coach receivers. He recently graduated from University of Oklahoma where he played linebacker,” said Reed.
Coach Reed will have the opportunity to coach his son, Peyton Reed this year who is a junior and a starter on the offensive line.
“Our team had a great summer! As a team we had 98% attendance in June/July and 36 out of 50 kids with perfect attendance,” said Reed.
