Weatherford’s Reno Hamons – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Eagle Realty – The Morley Group

by Trina Walker

Junior, Reno Hamons is a multi-sport player at Weatherford High School.

Reno plays football, baseball, and wrestles.

“My sport has taught me that hard work pays off,” says Reno, “I’m passionate about my sport because there aren’t a lot of people who make the choice to practice and workout every day so that they can be a part of a team.”

Reno compares being on a team to having a second family.

“My favorite part about being on a team is how close we are to each other,” he said.

“I started playing football as early as I could start,” says Reno. “My dad was the coach of my little league team because I wanted to play tackle football.”

Reno has grown from little league to high school football where he has built some of his favorite memories of the game like, beating their biggest rival, Clinton, at Clinton by 20 points his sophomore year.

Representing his high school as an athlete means a lot in Weatherford. Reno is proud to be known as a football player and a baseball player.

Reno looks up to many people in his life.

Mr. Willis is always available to help students whether it’s academics, or something unrelated to school.

Reno is inspired by Ethan Downs who grew up in Weatherford and now starts on the Sooner defense.

“Steele Chism has left a big impression on me. He has been my workout partner for two years, and we both play linebacker so we are always communicating on the field,” he said.

Reno wants to give a shout-out to his wrestling coach from 7th to 10th grade, Corey Duncan, “for shaping me into the athlete I am today.”

Reno works hard and pushes himself following advice given to him. “If you do what you’ve always done, then you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
