MARLOW OUTLAWS
Coach: MATT WEBER
7-4
OFFENSE
Just two years removed from their first state championship and undefeated season, the Marlow Outlaws and head coach Matt Weber are excited to take the field in 2023. With a large number of starters making their return, coach Weber is confident the team is adjusting well after moving up a class. “Second year in Class 3A after moving up from Class 2A. Look to have a strong year with 16 starters back,” said coach Weber. Seven of those 16 are on offense including Cade Gilbert (5-9, 180, Sr.) at quarterback. Gilbert replaces his brother who was a three-year starter and now the kicker at Iowa State. He is also a state champion in wrestling. A dual-threat quarterback that was Marlow’s leading rusher a year ago according to coach Weber. VYPE Top 100 nominee Barron Gage (6-3, 185, Sr.) is the No. 1 target in the passing game. Gage has the body-type to play at the next level. Look for Cody Weber (5-10, 175, Sr.) in the slot as the Outlaws will likely run the pistol spread but remain a run first style team. Up front look for Joseus Flores (6-2, 310, Sr.) at tackle with Caden Lucas (6-1, 320, Sr.) and Owen Long (6-2, 255, Sr.) at guard. The big men will be key for the run and quick screen game the Outlaws will employ.
DEFENSE
Nine starters are back on the defensive side of the ball including defensive tackle Brock Smith (6-0, 230, Jr.). Smith is a two-year starter and a weight room addict. Smith will be one of the leaders on defense. Jase Hunt (6-0, 195, Sr.) and Hudson Morgan (6-2, 190, So.) are the keystones to the defense from their linebacker spots. Both guys are fast to the ball and hit with authority. Payton Edie (6-3, 210, Sr.) has the quickness off the line to disrupt the backfield and will play a big factor in the overall success of the defense. The secondary is patrolled by Lawson Knox (5-11, 180, Sr.) at strong safety while Korbin Dittner (6-0, 185, Jr.) will start at outside linebacker. Look for the Outlaws to play a 4-2-5 but make adjustments when necessary. Pursuit to the ball is the mantra for the Outlaws this season.
