DUNCAN DEMONS

Coach: MATT TERRY

3-7

OFFENSE

When the Demons entered spring drills, optimism skyrocketed among this year’s roster as incoming head coach Matt Terry began to install a new offensive system tooled to match and showcase the talents of his players. Sawyer Rice (6-0, 170, So.) enters his second campaign running the offense flanked by a skilled and fast sophomore Tavion Holland (5-10, 170, So.) at running back. The experience on offense includes a group of skilled receivers including H-back Chris Kouts (6-3, 225, Sr.), described by Terry as a long, rangy talent that wants the ball in his hands plus Preston Bruehl (5-10, 220 Sr.) who brings a physical sense to his position while the sure hands of wideout Landon Holthaus (5-11, 145 Sr.) gives Duncan energy on the perimeter. Terry and the Demons made the most of the offseason in player development especially in the offensive line where Kaden Cogburn (5-11, 225, Sr.) returns for his final season in the trenches along with Nathan Channel (6-0, 190, Sr.), who according to Terry has an all-out approach to success with non-stop energy.

“We’re going to go out of the spread and try to control pace of the game while getting the ball into our playmakers hands to showcase their abilities,” said Terry.

DEFENSE

A group of five returning starters will be the foundation for the Demons defensive unit that will employ a 4-3 formation this year. “It’s a simple approach, play fast and attack with force,” said Terry.  Defensive end TayTay Jackson (5-11, 160, Sr.) and nose tackle Garrett Henry (6-0, 240, Jr.) will anchor play up front supported by the aggressive group of linebackers including Kooper Kelly (5-11, 160, Sr.) and Evan Howton (5-10, 185, Sr.) and Kouts. Speed and physicality will be a required skill in the Duncan secondary where state champion wrestler and top-notch baseball talent Eli Ramirez (5-10, 155, Jr.) and Sincere Young (6-2, 175, Jr.) will return experience under the Friday nigh lights along with Daveon Carr (6-2, 175, Jr.). “Initially there will be several new faces and names making themselves known by their efforts which means our returning lettermen will be asked to set the standard and raise the level of success,” said Terry.
