Elk City sophomore softball player Lou Wyatt – ‘I like to be involved in the school and community’ – Presented by Keyes Pharmacy

Elk City’s Lou Wyatt is expected to be among the top softball newcomers in western Oklahoma this fall.

The catcher has “big shoes to fill” in replacing a four-year starter, Elk City head coach Kaleb Murray said, but “has every tool to be able to step in and be a force.” Also a big hitter, Wyatt is expected to be a big contributor at the plate this year.

Wyatt also plays basketball and participates in Key Club, FCA, Student Council and Interact.

“I like to be involved in the school and community,” Wyatt said. “The community has given me so much love and support over the years, so I like to give back any chance I can get. We have such a special community knowing so many people look out for each other. There’s a comfort in knowing your neighbors.”

Wyatt said she wouldn’t trade her experience growing up in Elk City “for anything.”

“I’ve learned what it takes to be a team. My teammates are more than just people I play sports with, they’re my friends. I’ve learned that my relationships with my teammates are what makes us a great team,” Wyatt said. “I feel so blessed that we have a community that gives us so much, whether it be our local businesses sponsoring our teams, our booster programs making sure we’re all fed or our school board ensuring we’re in the best facilities.”

Though only a sophomore, Wyatt considers herself a leader through the experience she has gained in her various activities. She and her fellow Elkettes teammates are pursuing a long- sought-after goal this season: to make the state tournament.

“We lost some key players last year, but we hope to rebuild and keep working toward that goal,” Wyatt said. “We have been working in the offseason to help achieve those goals that we fell short in last year.”

Wyatt aspires to play college softball after she graduates in 2026.

“I play both travel and school softball, as well as individual training in order to help me achieve this goal,” Wyatt said.
