VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?
Memphis: I’ve been playing both golf and softball since I was four years old. Softball started when my mom decided she wanted to give the “coaching thing” a try. I started going golfing every time my parents went. I fell in love with the game and eventually started playing competitively.
VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
Memphis: I’ve played these sports for many years. My dream has always been to play college sports. I truly believe with hard work and dedication I can make that dream come true.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Memphis: Savanah Clothier. She never failed to make me laugh or smile no matter what was going on. She always has the best attitude, even in the bad times, and made me realize it doesn’t take much to make someone’s day 100 times better.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?
Memphis: My favorite memory is making the USSSA All-America team for softball and playing at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Florida.
VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?
Memphis: Simone Biles. Although she is a gymnast, she truly opened my eyes when she pulled out of the women’s gymnastics team final after a vault event and said “We are not just athletes. We are people at the end of the day and sometimes you just have to step back.” This has stuck with me because so many kids my age try to do so much in sports to the point they get hurt. With her saying that I think we should all understand that it’s okay to step back and take a break sometimes.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Memphis: No matter how tired, frustrated, and over it you are don’t let others see that and take advantage of it. Keep pushing and do better.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
Memphis: My parents. They have always supported me to help me achieve my goals. Through the thick and thin they have always been there.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
Memphis: My favorite part is being able to represent a small town in a big world. It gives me a purpose to represent not only myself by my friends and teachers as well.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Memphis: I want to say a HUGE thank you to my parents for always supporting me in anything and everything I do. Thank you to my coaches for always pushing me and believing in me. Also a HUGE to Tootie and Howie for being there as well. I appreciate you guys more than you’ll ever know.
