To play one sport in high school requires talent and determination. For Lawton High School sophomore Simone Roberts, being a multisport athlete comes with ease.
Simon is involved with track and field and also plays volleyball. For track and field, Simone runs the 4×2, 200m dash, and also does the long jump and high jump. For volleyball, she is the middle blocker.
When asked what motivates Simone, she said, “My coaches and friends motivate me to be better and to keep pushing even when I want to give up. Also, I strive to be great, so I can have a better future.
“It means a lot to me to represent Lawton High School, because when I gain an achievement it is not just me but my school reputation as ‘the home of the champions.’”
In terms of who her biggest influence is in her life, Simone did not hesitate to answer.
“My biggest role model is Monica Gonzalez,” Simone said. “Monica is my favorite coach, and the only one that was willing to work with me and my friends, Ronny Beach and Bailey Barnes. She influenced so much of my work ethic and inspired me to be the best person I can be, in and out of my sport.”
Off the track and volleyball court, Simone is heavily involved with other activities at Lawton High School. Simone said, “I am involved with the Open Doors program, the Youth Action for Health Leadership program, Military Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I was also a girls basketball manager, as well as football manager.”
After graduating from high school, Simone plans on pursuing higher education.
“My plans would to go to college for track and volleyball, and hopefully go to the University of Oklahoma to be a Division I athlete with a nursing degree.”
