Many high school athletes have the hope and dream of playing their sport at the collegiate level and know that it takes extra work and dedication in order to be able to make it to that point.
But few see that dream realized. Jayce Clem is one of those few.
A graduate of Big Pasture High School, Clem plays third base and first base on the baseball team at Cameron University in Lawton. He enjoys the game as much as he ever has.
“I really enjoy getting to slow the game down in the batter’s box and competing with eight of my teammates on the field,” Clem said. “I enjoy getting to share the field with guys I truly think of as close friends. Nothing beats the feeling of success on the field with your friends. My dad introduced me to baseball when I was very young and I’ve been in love with the game ever since.”
When it came to life after high school, Clem wanted to keep playing baseball, but he put his education first.
“I chose Cameron because I had a full ride for academics, and I felt as if I could walk on the baseball team. I am a double major.”
His time playing baseball for the Aggies has allowed Jayce to make some great memories. But he says his favorite moment would have to be when he had a big weekend at the plate.
“My favorite experience at Cameron was hitting four home runs in a weekend series against Oklahoma Christian.”
While he is proud of his accomplishments so far, Clem says that there is another pretty good athlete in his family.
“My younger sister, Harli, is the best player in the family,” he said. “She pitches at Southwestern Christian University.”
