Sophomore Jentry Whaley is a three-sport athlete at Comanche High School where she competes on the Indians’ fast-pitch, basketball, and slow-pitch teams. Whaley is a two-year starter at first base and also enters the circle as a relief pitcher.

During her freshman season, Whaley pitched a complete game in a winning effort against Davis to win districts.

“Her freshman season, she pitched the best game I’ve ever seen her pitch to clinch the district championship for us,” coach Aaron Minor said.

After defeating Davis at districts, Comanche would go on to win regionals and advance to state for the first time in 32 years.

During this season, Whaley showed up big at the plate, hitting a crucial home run in the regional championship as the Indians would go on to win and head to state in back-to-back seasons.

“This season, her regional tournament offensive stats were some of the best on the team,” Minor said. “She was one of the main players to push us to the championship and send us to state.”

The right-hander made the all-area team as a freshman and is expected to bring home a few more accolades after her sophomore season. Whaley also has a batting average of .350, which is the best on the team this season.

Whaley plays softball year-round with her travel team, Epic, and also coaches an 8-and-under team during the summer. Whaley also is a volunteer pitching and hitting coach during the summertime.

“Jentry is helpful and kind both on and off the field,” Minor said. “Jentry is a true team player. She does whatever is asked and shows up big for her team.”

Outside of athletics, Whaley is involved in BPA, FFA, and STUCO while carrying a 4.0 GPA. For FFA, Whaley shows cattle and helps with the annual greenhouse sale. Upon graduation, Whaley plans to attend OU and study to become a registered nurse.

Whaley credits her grandfather, Junior Waller, for her success on and off the softball field.

“He has always worked very hard and never a college education,” Whaley said. “He worked hard and was very successful, which has motivated me in so many ways.”
