OFFENSE
The Thackerville football program has plenty to be excited about coming into the season. Head coach Shane Wolfe has his coaching staff in place and returns several starters from last season. “We have a great coaching staff in place with a lot of returning starters from a year ago,” said Wolfe. “Many of those starters are still young but have a year of experience under their belt. We will rely heavy on the leadership of our seniors.” Wide receiver Blayne Giourgas (6-1, 160, Sr.) is one of those seniors looking to help lead this program. Last season he caught 46 passes for 739 yards. Sophomore quarterback Justice Rodriguez (6-0, 140) threw for 852 yards as a freshman and appears to be more comfortable with his role on the team. Aziz Hernandez (5-9, 150, So.) will handle the rock for the Wildcats. Last season he rushed for 721 yards on 131 carries. The Wildcats want to utilize their skill players with a lot of play action RPOs this season.
DEFENSE
Giourgas will go both ways playing linebacker for the Wildcat defense. In 2020 Giourgas recorded 49 tackles and is expected to have another big season in his final year of football at Thackerville. Hernandez will join Giourgas at linebacker where he made 44 tackles as a freshman. Nathan Wolfe (6-1, 270, Sr.) is another senior with big plans this year. Wolfe will start at nose guard giving the team someone who can plug the A-gap. “We will line up in a variety of defensive schemes depending on who we play. We have some key components coming back this season. We will be more aggressive and physical this season for sure,” said Wolfe. Also look for Colt Scarbrough (Sr.) to make an impact as well. Scarbrough is a leader on and off the field for Thackerville.
