OFFENSE
Head coach Chad Slane takes over a program that went 1-7 last season but returns six starters on offense. The plan coach Slane is implementing gives players like Kirk Harrison (5-7, 160, Sr.) the opportunity to make plays from his running back position by utilizing multiple formations and keeping the opposing defense guessing. Everything starts with the running game for the Wildcats. Lanham Mabry (5-10, 200, Jr.) is a fullback who can pound the ball or lead block for Harrison. Austin Willis (6-5, 250, Sr.) is a big tight end and a big target. Willis will primarily be used in the run game, but don’t be surprised if they sneak something in for Willis near the goal line. Blaze Cummings (5-9, 155, Sr.) is the go-to receiver in the passing game. Dre Smith (6-0, 300, Sr.) anchors the offensive line at tackle. The benefactor of all this talent is quarterback Jonah Toyekoyah (6-4, 220, Sr.). Expect this to be Toyekoyah’s best season on record.
DEFENSE
Seven starters are back on the 4-2-5 defense the Wildcats will run this season. Mabry is an animal at inside linebacker. Joining him in the middle is Caden O’Keefe (5-7, 200, So.) a tough, young lad who is ready to bang heads with the best of them. Eddie Mandrell (5-10, 190, So.) is another sophomore looking to leave an impression on opposing offenses from his outside linebacker spot. Andrew Bearbow (5-7, 150, So.) will start at safety where his size and speed will come into play. Harrison will occupy one of the corner positions while Kyler Smith (6-1, 200, Sr.) starts at defensive end. Smith is long and rangy. Look for him to harass quarterbacks all season long. Another player to watch is Brice Jackson. Considered one of the hardest workers on the team, Jackson made great strides in the weight room and is expected to be a big contributor.
