OFFENSE

After a four and seven record from the 2020 season, the Eagles look to be more aggressive this upcoming fall. “We return a lot of players with experience that should help us be competitive in the district,” head coach Jason Bohannon said. The offense returns eight of their 11 starters from a year ago, including quarterback Kolt Merrick (6-1, 180, Sr.). “He (Merrick) will be a four-year starter on both sides of the ball. An explosive player that can score anytime he gets the ball. Great all-around athlete and student that works hard at everything he does,” Bohannon said. The only returning target for Merrick is Noel Fernandez (6-0, 160, Sr.) who plays wide receiver for the Eagles. Sayre looks to bring back three offensive linemen, including Jackson Mendoza (5-10, 200, Sr.), Mason Whitskunk (6-0, 225, Sr.) and Mason Christian (6-0, 180, Sr.). Also returning to the Eagles is running back Ayden Hendershot (6-0, 185, So.). With an experienced offense like the Eagles, there’s a lot of room to make some noise.  

DEFENSE

Not only do the Eagles look to bring back eight offensive starters, they have seven returning starters on the defensive side of the ball as well. Merrick, who plays both sides of the ball, looks to hold down the safety position, with Hendersot playing linebacker and Christian playing defensive end. Allex Welch (5-10, 170, Sr.) looks to also play defensive end. Teagan Counts (5-10, 170, Sr.) looks to help out Hendersot at the linebacker position, and Daniel Yancey (6-4, 310, Sr.) looks to help out the defensive line. Expect the Eagles to play aggressive and use their speed to attack the ball.
