OFFENSE
Like many teams around the state, the Cordell Blue Devils football team were unable to play two games last season due to COVID-19. Even though they were not able to play a complete schedule, third year head coach Zane Trammell is hoping his squad continues to grow and learn. “We have fewer numbers this season,” he said. “We are looking to build off of the progress we were able to make last season.” The Blue Devils return five starters on the offensive side of the ball, including quarterback Cade Walker (6-0, 160, Sr.). Joining him in the backfield will be running backs Blaine Larson (5-9, 160, Sr.) and Danny Corbin (5-10, 160, So.). Along with playing running back, Corbin will also see time at slot receiver. JD Maddox (6-1, 160, Jr.) will look to be a threat at wide receiver.
DEFENSE
With five starters back on the defensive side of the ball, the Blue Devils defense is ready to make things tough for opposing offenses. Coach Trammell says that his defensive plan is to use what they have. “With us being an undersized team, we want to put our best athletes on the field,” he said. Looking to cause problems upfront will be Louis Lloyd (5-10, 190, Sr.) at nose guard and Cale McCoy (5-10, 175, Sr.) at defensive end. Maddox and Larson will line up at linebacker and work to shut down by plays by the opponents. Assistant coaches this season will be Dillon Ball and Devon Mitchel.
