Weatherford’s Mom of the Month – Debbie Sage – Presented by Corn Heritage Village & Rehab

Parents play a vital role in the success of their children. Not only do they provide for them and help them along the way, they also teach them numerous life lessons including getting done what needs to be done.

Debbie Sage is the mother of four. She and her husband, David, have worked hard to help their kids understand this concept.

“I absolutely think it is important for kids to know what their priorities are,” she said. “Faith, family, and a good work ethic are things we prioritize in our family. Something I think I passed along from my father was work before play. Growing up we had to get our work done before we could do the fun stuff.”

Debbie and David’s oldest child, Shelby is a dental assistant who ran track and competed in powerlifting in high school. As a student athlete at Weatherford, she ran track and was a powerlifter. Ashlyn played basketball and was a high jumper at Weatherford and then went on to play basketball at Arkansas and Oral Roberts University. Twins Ethan and Tate are juniors at Weatherford High School. They play basketball and golf.

Having kids competing in two different levels of sports can be a little tough on the schedule, but Debbie says they do their best to make it work.

“We attend every one of the boys high school games and we try to attend as many college basketball games of daughter Ashlyn’s as we could,” she said. “It has been very busy having a college basketball player and high school basketball players but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Being able to attend everything and provide support while working full time is pretty challenging. We teach our kids to do the right thing on and off the court, all the time even when no one is watching.”

The community of Weatherford has been a great place for Debbie and her family.

“We have been blessed for our kids to attend Weatherford schools since Pre-K. The teachers and students are great supporters of each other. I absolutely love this community and the way they show up and support Weatherford kids.”
