Tayte Shelton
Elk City High School
High school goes by fast. That’s something Tayte Shelton and his family are experiencing this year as Shelton is in his final few weeks of prep baseball and FFA.
Shelton became a member of FFA as soon as it was available, but he was involved in agriculture long before then.
“Started very young in 4H showing pig’s and I just kept going. It was my parents who encouraged me to join,” said Shelton.
Shelton currently serves as chapter president and is part of the ag mechanics group. He said being in FFA has been a great experience.
“What I loved about FFA was being so relaxed and finding something your good at. There are multiple options, it’s not just showing livestock,” said Shelton.
Also a member of FCA, Shelton said he loves the game of baseball and being around his teammates.
“They’re all great. They push me to be my best every day and they’re all so different that we match up great together to make a great team,” said Shelton.
Shelton said his father has been a positive influence in his life.
“My dad he is the strongest person I know physically and mentally. I try to be more like him every day,” said Shelton.
The third baseman has plans for life after high school and offers some advice to anyone interested in FFA.
“I’m a senior and I plan on attending SWOSU to pursue a degree in ag business. For anyone interested in FFA, do it! What’s the worst that can happen,” said Shelton.
