Anadarko’s Sam Battiest – Tennis Spotlight – Presented by Warrior Mart

Meet Sam Battiest, a determined sophomore from Anadarko High School, whose passion for tennis knows no bounds. Playing at the top spot in singles, Sam brings his A-game to every match, fueled by a deep sense of motivation and respect for his family.

“I feel like anytime she is there, I have to go 100 percent,” Sam said, referring to his grandmother, whose presence on the sidelines serves as his driving force.

Among his role models, Sam counts his dad, who has been a steadfast source of support throughout his athletic journey. “He’s always been there for me in every game I’ve ever played,” Sam reflected, highlighting the unwavering encouragement he receives from his family.

In the academic realm, Mrs. Melva Savage stands out as a guiding figure for Sam. “She always congratulates me on everything and keeps me in line,” he said, recognizing her impact on his personal and academic growth.

To excel in tennis, Sam emphasizes the importance of consistent practice and challenging oneself against stronger opponents. This dedication has led to significant milestones, including his first high school medal during his freshman year, an achievement he cherishes alongside his doubles partner, Addison.

When it comes to rivalries, beating Chickasha holds a special place in Sam’s heart. “It always feels good to beat them,” he added, relishing in the spirited competition between Anadarko and Chickasha.

Despite the occasional clashes, Sam values his practice partner, Daelena, for their competitive dynamic, which pushes both players to continually improve.

Reflecting on team dynamics, Sam emphasizes the mutual respect among teammates, with each member held in high regard.

Sam harbors great aspirations for his future, contemplating between pursuing a college tennis career and obtaining a degree in business or exploring the field of HVAC through trade school.

Above all, representing his community, especially as a Native American athlete, fills Sam with a profound sense of honor. “It’s a honor to represent us,” he affirmed, embodying the pride and resilience of his heritage on and off the tennis court.
