Duncan’s Jack Ensey: A Rising Star in Wrestling and Golf

Duncan High School sophomore Jack Ensey is an ideal representation of tenacity and success in and out of his extracurriculars. Jack is an extremely talented athlete with a strong love for golf and wrestling. “I am very competitive, and I like the pressure that comes with competing; I really like winning,” he said.

Inspiration for Jack comes from unexpected avenues, looking up to professional golfer Tiger Woods. “Tiger Woods, because he has made a tremendous impact on the game of golf,” Jack said. However, it’s his father’s relentless pursuit of success that fuels Jack’s own ambitions: “Also my dad, he has shown me that you can be very successful if you are willing to work very hard for that success.”

Reflecting on his formative years, Jack nods to Mrs. Marinda Cook, a teacher whose impact transcends the classroom: “I was lucky to have her in elementary and in middle school and she has taught me a bunch of life lessons,” Jack said. “And she probably hugged me every single day that she taught me!”

Success in sports, Jack knows, doesn’t come easy. “Doing things that no one else is willing to do. My older brother Tag has taught me the importance of outworking your opponents and being willing to do what others won’t so you can achieve what others can’t.”

But for Jack, victory isn’t just about personal achievement. It’s about the thrill of competition, the rush of overcoming challenges. “Bishop Kelly is my favorite team to beat because they were so confident that they were the best,” Jack said.

In the formative hours of practice, Jack finds his mettle tested by teammate Grayson Brooksher. “It gets really competitive when we play. We push each other even though we are friends and teammates,” Jack shared.

Yet, amidst the spotlight of victory, Jack remains humble, recognizing the under-appreciated teammates in his midst. “Jensen Prince, because although he is a freshman, he has been putting in the work, and I see the potential in his game and in his work ethic,” Jack said.

Looking ahead, Jack’s aspirations extend beyond the confines of high school. “My plan after high school is to continue my education and play college golf.”

But beyond the trophies and accolades, Jack understands the true essence of sportsmanship. “I think you should have good sportsmanship, to compete to the very best of your ability and in a way that shows respect for your school and community.”
