Elk City wrestler Aaron Frye displays leadership, work ethic – Presented by Oak Creek Floral

Aaron Frye is a senior at Elk City and competes for the Elks’ wrestling team. As a senior Frye is one of the leaders for the Elks and coaches speak highly of his work ethic and ability to set an example for others around him.

“He can always be counted on to give everything he has and will do things right,” Elk city head wrestling coach Kaleb Murray said. “He has worked hard this off-season to completely change his body and should have a good chance to make a state qualifying push.”

This season Frye has been competing at the 144 weight class, a slight change from last year’s weight, and as coach Murray noted Frye has been adaptive and taking on the challenge with enthusiasm and success. At a recent tournament Frye won his solo match as Elk City took on 4A-1 champions Clinton. As the season winds to a close Frye has his sights set on making a trip to the state tournament.

“I want to go to state,” Frye said. “I’ve put in so many hours and so much work into the sport I know it will happen if I keep going at this pace.”

Outside of wrestling Frye also competes on the Elk City esports team playing Rocket League and Fortnite. Last season Frye finished state runner up in the Fornite OSSAA esports competition and hopes to take the next step this year and become a state champion.

It is a busy final semester for Frye, but he wouldn’t have it any other way as he is always looking for a new challenge and competition. As Frye’s high school career begins to come to a close he has already begun planning ahead for his future.

“I want to continue my wrestling career at the next level and plan on becoming a firefighter after that,” Frye said.

As a senior Frye is thankful for all the support and opportunities he has received in Elk City from his friends, family, coaches, and teachers. When asked what advice he would share with underclassmen, Frye had this to say:

“They weren’t kidding when they said it goes by fast so enjoy every minute in high school.”
