Duncan girls soccer approaches optimistic 2023 season – Presented by RibCrib

Coming into the 2023 season, the Lady Demons of Duncan are without seven former players who were lost to graduation. Head coach Dillon Southerland is optimistic about the opportunity in front of his team.

“We have a great opportunity for some of our younger players to step up after we had seven seniors graduate last year. I’m excited to see who makes that jump and how they can help the team make it further into the playoffs,” said coach Southerland.

Alyssa Harvey returns to the lineup and is expected to have a big season.

“She missed last season with an injury, and we are excited to get her back this year. Very hard-working selfless player that knows how to get her teammates involved. One of our leaders this year on a young team,” said coach Southerland.

Another player making her return is Katelin Ramirez. Ramirez is one of the top scorers on the team and could be the leading scorer in 2023.

Coach Southerland calls underclassman Kierney Holthaus a “well-rounded player” with a “high soccer IQ.”

Gizzel Carrasco is one of two seniors on the roster this season. Carrasco is a defensive specialist with a high motor. Also look for Callen Villagrana who coach Southerland calls one of the hardest working players on the team.
