Geary’s Haylee Gormley – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By RibCrib

The atmosphere at a small-town school sporting event is one that is not like many. Everyone is there to cheer on the team and support the school, but not everyone has someone they know that plays. Some are just members of the community that show up to be a part. Haylee Gormley is a senior at Geary High School and she says that she loves being a part of the community.
“For me, I love to be successful in all my school activities,” she said. “So I excel in all of those activities so that I can proudly represent Geary school and community.”

Haylee competes in multiple sports for the Bison, including basketball, softball, track, and cross country. On the basketball court, she plays point guard and shooting guard, while she plays third base and catcher on the softball field. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the student council and the Beta Club.

Every athlete has to work to be successful and they know that they have to find the way that works best for them. Gormley says that staying focused on the task at hand is what she does.

“Working hard in silence with nobody watching is how I am successful,” she said. “Just grinding away with no interruptions. I think that would be the highlight of my career, just the way that I have come up in every sport throughout my high school career.”

She says that she has also had some outstanding people that have been a part of her life and helped her become the person that she is.

“My dad is definitely one of my biggest role models,” she said. “He pushes me to be better and do better. Also, coach Finney keeps me motivated both academically and athletically.”

Geary girl’s head basketball coach, JC Estep, says that Haylee is a solid member of the team and she is a hard worker.

“Haylee Gormley has started at point guard for all four seasons of varsity,” Estep said. “Besides handling the basketball, she is able to create shots for not only herself but for her teammates. Haylee excels at basketball, cross country, softball, and track.”
