Weatherford Area Basketball Players to Watch – Presented by Pond Agency

BOYS BASKETBALL 

Kyron Whinery – Canute 

Kyron is a four-year starter, averaging over ten points a game since his freshman year and eight rebounds. He has averaged 18 wins a season since freshman year, area tournament freshman year, area finals sophomore year, and state tournament last year. Kyron will play college baseball after graduation this year. 

Karson Schmidt – Corn Bible 

Dedicated to the team with a team-first attitude and leads by example. He is a hard worker that is not afraid to do whatever it takes to help the team. 

CJ Nickson – Weatherford 

Standing 6-foot-6 and extremely athletic, CJ can play all five positions at a high level. He has a very good character and is a great teammate. Averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds as a freshman last season. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL 

Hailey Buie – Elk City 

Hailey is the glue and heart-beat of this team. She is the teammate that celebrates her teammate’s successes more so than her own. She also is the team leader when it comes to gym time and making sure the players are committed and putting in the extra work. The team goes as she goes. 

Riely Hartman – Merritt 

Riely is a four-year starter on the post. She is a good scorer and really physical. 

Sydney Hampton – Thomas 

Sydney will be a four-year starter. She will guard the opponent’s best player regardless of size or position. She plays with great effort and is an outstanding leader. 

Addy Hoffman – Weatherford 

Addy is an all-around great scorer. She is highly skilled and plays at a high level both offensively and defensively. She can score the ball at all three levels and has a high basketball IQ.

Luke Zybach – Corn Bible 

A great kid who is very coachable. He loves to compete even in sprints. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL 

Caylin Burton – Elk City 

Caylin is one of the senior leaders on the team this season. She battled through injuries during her freshmen and sophomore seasons before coming back strong for her junior season a year ago. She impacts the game on both ends of the court. Her length and quickness allow her to get a lot of deflections and steals on defense, while her shooting touch and aggressive ball handling allow her to be a constant threat on the offensive end. 

Marley Teasley – Weatherford 

Marley is a sophomore who is expected to step up big this year. She is a sharp shooter from the three-point line. She’s a tough player who is willing to do anything the team needs her to do.

BOYS BASKETBALL 

Zack Zybach – Corn Bible 

Great point guard who sees the floor well makes great in the heat of the battle decisions 

Tate & Ethan Sage – Weatherford 

These 6-foot-6 sophomore twins were big contributors as freshmen on the semifinal run. Look for them to both have big years. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL 

Abby Brown – Elk City 

Abby is an up and coming player for the Lady Elks. She was the sixth-man as a freshman a year ago, and will move into the starting point guard spot for the 2022-23 season. She was second on the team in scoring and assists last year. 

Marlie Mong – Merritt 

Marlie will be a great addition to the team. She has a chance to be one of the top scores on the team this year. 

Harlie Chism – Weatherford 

Harlie is a sophomore that played varsity minutes last season as a role player. She will play a much bigger role this season both offensively and defensively.
