Entering the 2023 season the Elks of Elk City are poised for another excellent year on the diamond. Head coach Jay McClure led the Elks to a 29-10 record a year ago and is confident this team has what it takes to be competitive. 

“We will have a lot pf pieces back from last year’s team. Our biggest strength will be our pitching staff. We return the majority of our staff. We are very athletic, we will look to put pressure on teams without speed and athleticism,” said coach McClure. 

Outfielder Kash Mayfield (Jr.) makes his return to the lineup bringing his work ethic and leadership to the dugout. As a sophomore Mayfield was 9-1 with a .920 ERA and 101 strikeouts. He hit .290 at the plate with 20 RBIs. 

“Kash is one of the hardest working young men I have coached. He is always working to get better, ether on the mound or at the plate. Kash has a bright future at Oklahoma State University,” said coach McClure. 

Harrison Mayfield is another exciting pitcher in the rotation. After suffering from an injury, Mayfield has worked his way back into the rotation and close out his final season of prep baseball with a great season from the bump. 

Also look for Catch Geno to make an impact this season. Geno is a sophomore and someone coach McClure can use in multiple ways.
