Weatherford sophomore Steele Chism – character counts – Presented by Eagle Realty

Steele Chism is a sophomore at Weatherford High School and multisport athlete for the Eagles. Chism plays middle linebacker for the Eagle defense and helped Weatherford make a trip to the postseason this fall.

Steele is one of three Chism triplets along with his brother Stone and sister Harlie. He, along with Stone, found success on the field this year but both suffered leg injuries which ended their season prematurely and will unfortunately keep them out for most of the upcoming basketball season.

However, the Chisms made the most of their opportunities when healthy and are looking forward to getting back into action.

Sports have always been a big part of the Chism life. Steele first started playing football when he was six years old. Chism brings his aggression to the Eagles’ defensive unit and always gives full effort. He appreciates the support and motivation he has received from the coaching staff in his time at Weatherford.

“Doesn’t matter, get better” are some words that coach Sossamon shared with his defensive unit and Steele uses for motivation and finding that extra bit of drive on the field or in practice.

Chism always plays with a team-first mentality.

“I like being a part of a team and playing hard for my teammates,” Chism said.

As a sophomore this season Chism accomplished a personal achievement starting for the varsity team. Throughout the season Weatherford had success and Chism made some great memories. However, beating the Clinton Red Tornadoes during their homecoming in Clinton might be at the top of the list.

While Chism loves football his true passion might be on the baseball diamond. Chism plays third base, first base, and in the outfield. Aside from playing for the Eagles in the spring he also plays on a competitive travel team in the summer.

Chism said that after high school he is hoping to further his playing career in either football or baseball and continue his education in college.
