Lawton Eisenhower’s Danaiya Stilwell-Smith pushes her limits – Presented by Bank of Commerce

Danaiya Stilwell-Smith is a sophomore at Eisenhower High School. As an athlete that plays multiple sports, she knows that it takes more than just showing up and competing. There is a lot of work and effort that goes into being ready for game day.

“When I am in practice, I push my limits,” she said. “I set my goals before every game, and try always to keep a good mindset while I am playing.”

Stillwell-Smith plays basketball and runs track for Eisenhower. She is also a member of the Native American Club and the African American Club.

Basketball has always been a part of her life and Danaiya says that her mom is a big reason why she loves the game so much.

“My mother has been the biggest influence on my life because she was once a basketball player and she loved it to death so I grew up around hooping,” she said. “Another person that has impacted my life and still does is Ms. Hall. She was my PreK teacher and is now the assistant coach on my basketball team.”

Being a high school athlete can be tough at times, but Danaiya says that you just have to do what you are supposed to do and it will all work out.

“I just turn in work before the due date and stay on top of all assignments,” she stated. “It is difficult though because after practice you be tired and exhausted. But you just have to stay focused because if you fall behind in class, you won’t be able to play.”

Jon Willis is the head coach of the Eisenhower girl’s basketball team. He says that Danaiya is an exciting player to watch and an outstanding member of the team.

“Danaiya is primed to have a solid varsity campaign this season,” Willis said. “She is a great kid and an awesome teammate.”
