Altus Bulldogs Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Jackson County Orthopedic Clinic

Head Coach Stacie Terbush enters her ninth year leading the Lady Bulldogs basketball team and is ready to get the season underway after a disappointing year in ‘21-22. Altus looks to be much improved after a solid offseason and has a promising group of incoming freshmen who should make an immediate impact. Dani Davis (Sr.) returns for her final year and brings a veteran presence both on and off the court and is the team’s floor general. “She has good ball sense and really knows the game,” said Terbush. “She studies the mental aspect as well as the physical aspect of the game and her teammates. She knows exactly what we want and how to do it.”

Parish Norfleet (Jr.) is a newcomer to Altus but no stranger to the hardwood. Norfleet will fill some immediate holes for the Lady Bulldogs and is a very versatile playmaker with good handles and the ability to shoot off the dribble with a soft touch. Madie Whittaker (Fr.) is competitive and hardworking with the ability to score the ball from inside or out. Whittaker grew over the offseason and will look to her recent growth spurt to her advantage. Maci Hayes (So.) played tough last year as a freshman and impressed coaches with her natural instincts and quick first step. “She isn’t the tallest but is not afraid of contact,” said Terbush. “A very hard worker and very determined.”

Melissa Tamez (Jr.) is a defensive leader and does all the little things right and uses her intangibles to make an impact whenever she’s on the court. Jenna Blackford (So.) is a shotblocker who is still growing into her frame and learning to make the most of her length. Blackford has been improving her ball handling and touch around the rim; coaches expect big things from her this season.

Other players to look for include: Alyssa Nolan (Jr.), Kaydence Bowen-Rencher (Sr.), Jazmyne Cerda (Jr.), Presley Bagwell (Fr.), Bella Cordes (Fr.), Chevelle Carney (Fr.), Monique Tamez (Fr.), Berta Cascon-Rosado (Jr.), Madison McKee (Sr.), Maddox Carrol (Sr.), Taylor Johnson (Sr.), Trianna Winkfield (Fr.), Abrianna Hernadez (Fr.), and Savannah Miller (Fr.).
