Athletes put in an enough amount of work in order to reach the goals they have set for themselves. While the work is important, having someone to look up to as a role model or example can make a big impact. Harlie Chism is a sophomore and plays softball for Weatherford High School. Though she has a few years before she graduates, she knows what her goals are and he has her big sister to look up to. 

“My older sister played college softball at Oklahoma Christian,” Chism said. “She has always supported me on whatever path I choose to eventually take. She set high standards and became my biggest competitor, but never failed to let me dream big. My goal is to play college softball at the next level to continue my career. I’m very competitive and constantly working to make adjustments and add new skills to my game.” 

Along with playing softball, Chism also plays basketball and runs track for the Eagles. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student council, Key Club, Fan in the Stands, Leadership Lab, Early Bird Reader, and Spanish Club. 

“Yes, that sounds like a busy schedule,” Harlie said. “But it’s super fun to be involved with the student body and set examples for the younger kids to come.” 

Playing multiple sports can be a tough schedule, Chism knows that putting in the work will help her become the best she can be. 

“Continuously, day in and day out, I have to get better each and every day,” she said. “Whether it’s working on slot throws, shooting threes, running repeat 400’s, or back squatting with coach Soss, there has never been an off season. Playing three sports is tough, but staying positive and continuing to move forward no matter how tired you are is a big step in my mental game.” 

While her sister has been a great role model in her life, Chism says that she would not be who she is today without two special people. 

“My parents work so hard for me to be able to live out my expectations,” she said. “They have always supported me and pushed me to where I am today and will continue to go. They could never get enough credit for the effort they put in to help me make my dreams a reality.”
