High school athletes put in a lot of work and effort so when they step out to compete on game day, they are ready. Will Morris is an athlete at Plainview High School and he says that while the work is important, so is the name on the jersey. 

“For me to be successful in my sports has always been the work I put in when nobody is watching,” he said. “I am constantly working and watching opponents film to be the best I can be on game day. Representing Plainview is a huge deal for this town. There have been so many great athletes come out of this town and it means a lot to wear it across your chests on Friday night. Representing the school and the community on Friday nights is one of the best feelings, having everybody supporting you and watching you is a great feeling.” 

Morris is a senior at Plainview, where he plays football and basketball, and he runs track. He is a member of the student council, Fellowship of Christitan Athletes, and the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. 

Morris is thankful for the teammates he plays alongside and he knows that they make him better. 

“Morgan Pearson is one of the teammates I enjoy working against the most in practice,” he said. “He is a great athlete and always works hard. The least appreciated player on the team is Hunter Freeman. He is a three-year starter at center, he never misses a block, and always gives 110% in practice and in games. This year he is playing linebacker and he doesn’t miss tackles and always hits hard.” 

While he has been a part of many plays of the football field and the basketball court, but he says that there is one moment that stands out as his favorite. 

“The highlight of my career was when I had two interceptions in a game against Sulphur,” he said. “One was on the goal line and sealed the win for us. It was an amazing experience because Sulphur is probably the opponent that I enjoy beating the most. It is a long game of smash mouth football and it is always a battle.”
