Amber Pocasset

Amber-Pocasset’s Athlete Spotlight – Claire Janssen – Presented by Bryan’s Car Corner

Claire Janssen is a sophomore on the Amber-Pocasset volleyball team, where she’s started both years under coach Suzanne Parker.

“Claire is a very coachable and level-headed player,” Parker said. “We feel very comfortable with the ball in her hands, and she does a great job of moving the ball and finding holes. She does a phenomenal job of reading the floor and net and has a nasty off-speed. She is someone we look to as a leader, not only because of her words of encouragement but for the actions that accompany them.”

And the underclassman has shined this season, with 136 kills, 109 digs, 16 blocks, and serving 94.3 percent with 33 aces.

After her freshman season, Janssen and the Lady Panthers capped off its first winning season in school history. This season, the Class 3A squad made it a priority play bigger competition in 4A and 5A. Back in early September, Am-Po defeated Midwest City (5A) after being down 11-0 in the first game, eventually defeating the Lady Bombers in five sets. Am-Po also defeated Weatherford (4A) in five sets at the same tournament.

Both games were mentioned by Janssen as her favorite moments on the volleyball court, thus far.

“The moment that stands out to her in her volleyball career is a night when our team came together and played a great match against a good team,” Parker said. “I think that is a great example of who Claire is, which is a completely selfless team player.”

Outside of volleyball, Janssen is involved in FFA, where she shows cattle, judges livestock, and competes in speeches and quiz bowls. Upon graduation, Janssen would like to become a livestock photographer.

“Claire Janssen is just a truly awesome young lady,” Parker said. “She is involved in multiple extracurricular activities, excels in the classroom, and plays a key role in our volleyball program. Our program and community could not be prouder of all that she has accomplished. We are truly blessed by her in so many ways.”
