Mangum Football Spotlight – Jake Green – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

Athletes can have any number of people that they look up to as role models. Whether it is a celebrity, professional or collegiate athlete, or someone a little closer to home, these people can make an impact that will last a lifetime. Jake Green, who is a sophomore at Mangum High School, has a few different people that have made a difference in in his life.

“The biggest influences in my life are my dad, Michael Green, my coach, Sam Powers, and my fellow teammate, Nate Augustine,” he stated. “These three guys have pushed me to be a better man on and off the field and to be a leader instead of a follower and to push my self even when I don’t have anything left.”

As a student at Mangum, Jake is a member of the football, wrestling, and powerlifting teams. He is also a member of the Future Farmers of America organization.

Whenever he suits up and dresses in the school colors, Green feels a responsibility to be the best that he can be, not only athletically, but also as human being.

“When I’m on that field or mat or in that gym about to lift, I’m not just representing myself,” he said. “I’m representing my last name, my hometown, and my community and when I’m about to start, all I can think about is not to let them down. So I push myself to be better for them and to keep my cool so I do not represent them wrong.”

Growing into the athlete that he is today has not been easy, but Jake knows that you have to keep working in order to continually improve.

“It’s taken effort, heart, and trusting the guy next to you to get where we are now,” Green stated. “And it’s going to take that and much more to succeed to the next level.”

There have been some great moments that Jake has experienced alongside his teammates during his career, but he has one that he likes the best.

“The highlight of my career would be this year against Rush Springs in football,” he said. “We were up by seven and they scored and just needed the extra point to tie the score. My teammates and I pulled together and stopped them from scoring and we won the the game.”
