Top 100 Spotlight – Hinton’s Jake Wright – Presented by 4-D Farms

With the season rapidly approaching, players like Jake Wright from Hinton High School are turning their thought to the first game of the season. For this two-way starter coming into his junior year, Wright said he loves how much this team has come together this offseason.

“We all love each other; it’s a brotherhood and we all have each other’s back. It’s about knowing that you have someone there any day, any time and someone you can trust,” said Wright.

Hinton will play five home game this season, but for Wright it doesn’t matter who the opponent is or where they play, he wants to take the field and compete.

“I just want to play ball with my teammates. I don’t mind who it’s against,” said Wright.

At the age of 10, Wright started playing football and he stuck with it. He’s also a member of the varsity baseball team. Being a student-athlete at Hinton is something Wright is proud of. He said the best kept secret about Hinton is the people.

“The people and environment is what I love most. Everyone is friendly and the teachers and coaches are always there when you need help with something,” said Wright.

The junior will play running back and linebacker again this season for the Comets. Wright rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a sophomore and tallied more than 110 tackles. Both are positions he loves to play.

“What I like most about my position is the adrenaline rush both positions give me. They are very high intensity, fast, hard, and a-lot of hitting,” said Wright.

There are several teammates who Wright said has really looked impressive coming into the season.

“Grayden Deviney is a sophomore and seeing him get stronger and faster and learning the game impresses us every day,” said Wright.

After a game, the team usually hits a place to eat like Jerry’s in Weatherford, but before every game Wright said he has a favorite meal he likes to prepare.

“Pregame Pedialyte and pasta is my go-to before a game,” said Wright.

His future plans include playing football in college and studying mechanical engineering.

Wright loves the game of football and the moments within the game. He recalled one moment that made him laugh on the field.

“My best friend said he couldn’t get up because he couldn’t see and I told him, “Open your eyes” and he said, “oh.”
