OFFENSE

The 2021 season was exciting for the Thackerville Wildcats who posted their first winning record in four years and first playoff appearance since 2016. With four starters back on offense, coach Shane Wolfe, aided by Hunter Mc- Cage, is optimistic that the “Cats can take it even further into November this season. One reason for that optimism is the return of third-year quarterback Justice Rodriguez (5-10, 160, Jr.). “Justice is a quiet leader, but he commands our offense with that leader- ship. We expect big things from him going into his junior season,” said Wolfe. Andy Cabrera (5-9, 150, Sr.) gets the nod at running back but is expected to be challenged by Aziz Hernandez (5-8, 170, Jr.) who was injured most of last year. Thackerville is also expecting contributions from a couple of sophomores in Luke Foreman (5-10, 150) who had an excellent campaign in 2021 at wide receiver and is also the backup quarterback, and Austin Tyre (5-7, 145) who is another target for Rodriguez’s passes. In the middle of the line will be big Dalton Bevan (6-2, 275, Jr.) who is also back from injury last year.

DEFENSE

There are five returning start- ers on the defensive side for the Wildcats and as is usually the case when you get to the smaller schools, most of them are the same names we saw on offense. Hernandez will be the hard hitter at linebacker along with Bryson McGilvrey (5-9, 165, Jr.). Foreman and Lucas Joyner (5-7, 145, So.) will be the defensive ends while Rodriguez and Tyre will flag down would be receivers in the secondary. The Wildcats will move from District C-2 to C-4 this season prompting a few changes in district opponents. Maud, Sasakwa, Bowlegs and Graham- Dustin will also make the move leaving Paoli, Maysville, and Fox as the new faces for Thackerville to contend with.
