Hollis Tigers Softball Preview – Presented by Harmon Electric

Coach: DERICK HODGES

OUTLOOK

The Hollis Lady Tigers enter the 2022 season with eagerness and promise. Last season ended with an early postseason exit in the District Tournament. This season, head coach Derick Hodges says his squad from a year ago hit some bumps in the road, but he is excited to get this season underway.

“We only graduated a couple of girls from last year’s 17-17 squad that was hindered by injuries,” he said. “We look to improve on that record and inch our way into the top twenty for Class A and host a district tournament. Our girls and community are excited about this season, and it has the potential to be special for the Hollis Lady Tigers.”

Leading the team will be junior Morgan Robinson. She is an outstanding athlete that takes control when she is in the out- field. She also led the team in batting average last year with a .468. Also playing a big role for the Lady Tigers will be senior Kalie Pendergraft, who had thirty-two stolen bases a year ago. Pendergraft also has the ability to play any position on the field, giving her coach the flexibility to use her where she is most needed. One player on the team that is a big part is senior Amerie ‘Pookie’ Ross. Hodges says that when she is not behind the plate, the team can tell and misses her. “Pookie doesn’t realize it but she is a huge part of the team,” Hodges said. “She missed several games with an ankle injury last year and we struggled to find ways to win, but with her catching and her bat in the lineup, we jell much better.”

Hodges and the Lady Tigers will look for Ross to continue to play a huge role and also hopefully stay healthy. A player to keep an eye on will be sophomore Presley Riley. She is a solid and competitive athlete that wants to win and is willing to put in the work to do so.
