Clinton Football Preview: Defense – Presented by S & D Drug

Head Coach – John Higbee

2021: 13-1

Like the offense, the Clinton defense is also only returning four starters from last year’s state championship winning team. They employ the 50 defense and pride themselves on playing hard, fast, and physical. Leading the Clinton defense is VYPE 100 linebacker Javion Hill (6-1, 175, Sr.). Hill recorded 87 tackles last year and is entering his third year starting for the Red Tornadoes. Joining Hill at linebacker are Caleb Edwards (5-10, 160, Sr.) and Trey Bennett. Those two guys combined to tally 86 tackles, eight sacks, and an interception. Another linebacker that could break out for Clinton this year is Cooper Sulley (5-11, 160, Jr.). Sulley totaled 29 tackles and had two interceptions last season. Up front, Montiel “Bumpy” Crane (5-8, 225, Jr.) and Layden Fuller (5-8, 235, Jr.) will look to improve off their impressive sophomore campaigns that saw them combine for 64 tackles, three sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
