Plainview’s Jacelyn Hammon – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Carter County Dodge and Hyundai

By Derrick Smith

Athletes work hard to be their best. No matter how much success they enjoy, they continue to work hard and get even better. Jacey Hammon is a multisport athlete for the Plainview Indians and has invested a lot to achieve the success she has.
“It takes a lot of mental toughness to achieve your goals,” she said. “There is a lot of hard work and effort that goes into it. The thought of being successful and competing at the next level is definitely something that keeps me motivated.”

Success is something that Hammon knows about. She was the regional champion in the high jump. She has also won the regional bronze in 400 meters, she is also a member of the 4×200 and 4×400 regional champion relays, and qualified for all four events for state. At the state meet, she was the Class 4A state runner up in high jump, seventh place in the 400 meters, and a member of the 4×200 sixth-place team, 4×400 seventh-place team, and she placed at state in all four events. In basketball, she was All-Conference and is also a member of the AJ Hawkins Team Unity in AAU.

The sophomore competes in both basketball and track for Plainview. She has a few people that have had an impact on her life and helped her get to where she is today.

“My dad and Ally Parham have played huge roles in my life,” she said. “They have both helped me become the athlete that I am. I owe a lot to both of them.”

The girl’s basketball coach at Plainview, Chad Walker, says that not only is Jacey an outstanding athlete, but she is also an even better teammate.

“Her competitiveness and drive not only pushes her to be the best, but it also raises the expectations of those around her,” Walker said. “She is one of those players that a coach would like to have a team full of.”

Whether she is stepping out on the basketball court or on the track, Hammon says that there is not one opponent that she enjoys beating more than another.

“Every opponent that I face with my basketball team and track team, we always want to come out with a win,” she said.
