Plainview’s Grant Graves – Ardmore Area Hometown Hero 2022 – Presented By Owens Insurance Agency

By Derrick Smith

Throughout an athlete’s career, there are moments that stand out to them for a variety of reasons. It could be a personal accomplishment or just a really good play, but it is something that is important to the athlete and something they will not forget. Grant Graves has a couple of moments that stand out like this.

“There are a few highlight moments that I have had throughout my career,” he said. “This year I hit a home run on the first pitch of the game against Heritage Hall. Also, I threw an eight-inning no-hitter against Cache this season. I got the chance to start at quarterback during my sophomore season. Our starting quarterback got hurt and the coaches really showed a lot of faith in me.”

Graves is a junior at Plainview High School where he plays both baseball and football. He says that it has taken a lot to get to the level where he is in both sports, but he also says he has the motivation to keep working.

“I have put in a lot of practice and hard work,” he said. “I also put in a lot of practice at home. One thing that keeps me going is the fear of failure. I don’t want to fail no matter what I do, so that is what keeps me motivated.”

There are a number of people that have had some kind of an influence on Graves’ career. But out of all of them, he says that there is one group that has had the biggest impact.

“The upperclassmen have always taken care of me and really taken me in,” he said. “They really invested in me and supported me. My coaches have always believed in me too. They have given me great opportunities and set me up for success.”

Along with his sports, Grant is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, Meant for More, and Multimedia.
