Byng High School freshman Tucker Dennis is completing his second year in the local chapter of the FFA (Future Farmers of America). 

“I have been in FFA for two years now, and I started in FFA because I live on a farm and thought I could learn a few things in there,” said Dennis. 

Meeting new people and being involved in the competitions are two reasons Dennis said he enjoys being part of the group. 

“The thing I enjoy most about FFA is going on trips to competition or conferences with friends,” said Dennis. “Some FFA things I am involved in are Nursery CDE competitions and goat showing. I’m also going to be doing a speech next year.”

Along with being involved in FFA, Dennis also plays basketball and tennis for Byng High School. 

“The thing I like most about my team is they are always making me laugh, and always having a good time,” said Dennis. “My favorite memory as a student-athlete was when my friend accidentally took someone’s meal at a restaurant and still ate it. That was pretty funny.”

Dennis said he would like to finish high school and work towards becoming a physical therapist or veterinarian. The freshman offers this advice to anyone looking to join the FFA.

“If you are thinking about joining FFA, do it. You will make some of the greatest memories in FFA, just by being with your friends. Not just the memories though. You can get thousands of dollars of scholarships to great schools. You can get these scholarships just by competing in competitions.”
