Ryan’s Andrew Scott – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Bank of Commerce

Andrew Scott is making himself known as an underclassman on the track and field team at Ryan High School. The Sophomore has already broken 12 school records for the mile and two-mile runs with 10 of those records being his own.

“I plan to break those records again next year and hopefully continue to do so the year after that,” Scott said.

This past spring, Scott ran the mile in 5:22 and the two-mile in 11:25.

“I’ve never met anyone who’s more competitive than Andrew,” coach Shelley Cain said. “He gives it all each and every time he steps on the track. His motivation is what makes him stand out. No matter how early in the morning, how hot or cold, he always shows up with winning on his mind.”

Scott was also a Class A state qualifier on Ryan’s cross country team this past fall. This year, Scott joined the football and basketball teams, where he plays the point guard position on the hardwood and plays cornerback and wide receiver on the field. When he’s not competing on the track, Scott starts at center field and bats lead off on the baseball team.

Outside of athletics, Scott is involved in FFA where he competes in debates across the state. Upon graduation, Scott wants to attend law school to practice criminal defense law. Scott credits the Ryan community for lending a helping hand anytime he needs it, whether it’s support on the track or a ride home from practice.

“Andrew is a great kid,” Cain said. “He hasn’t always been dealt a good hand in life but he never lets it stop him from being the best he can be. He has a great attitude and is well deserving of everything that comes to him. We’re very proud of him.”
