Jaron Foster – WOSC Athlete Spotlight

By Derrick Smith

Everyone has something that they enjoy doing any time they have the chance. For some it is sports, such as golf or tennis, while others may enjoy reading a good book or going fishing. But for Jaron Foster, it is the rodeo that he enjoys doing.

“The reason I enjoy rodeo is because it is my life,” he said. “I have always watched my father rope as a young kid and now I am getting to. Plus, I enjoy going out and roping and meeting new people every day that will later become my friends and family. I enjoy the sport of rodeo because it gives me a chance to travel all over and rope with different people from all over.”

Jaron is a student at Western Oklahoma State College. He has double majored at WOSC, completing the Agricultural Business Associate and Farm and Ranch Management programs. He already has plans set once he is finished at Western.

“After graduating from Western I plan to continue my education for a bachelor’s in agriculture business and join the rodeo team at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford,” he said. “I would say that without college rodeo I would have never gone to school and attained a college degree. After attending college and playing a sport for the college, I would tell everyone that has a chance to attend college and play a sport to go and do it.”

As a member of the rodeo team at Western, Foster says that while he enjoys the rodeo aspect of it, he really enjoys the social part too.

“The thing I enjoy about roping for WOSC is that it has given me the chance to meet friends that have become family to me and allowed us to do what we love together,” he said. “Another thing I enjoy doing for WOSC is being an Agricultural Ambassador. This has given me the chance to go out and talk with high school students and tell them all about Western and about our rodeo team and everything we have to offer as a college.”
