Walter’s Grace Myers – Cameron University Spotlight

Former Walters High School standout and now Cameron University freshman Grace Myers has adjusted to life as a college student and athlete. The softball catcher said she loves being part of the Cameron family for many reasons.

“I was most interested in Cameron because it was close to home. I personally am a big home body and knew being super far from home wouldn’t work for me. My mom also has worked at Cameron for over 10 years now and I have become very familiar with the campus,” Myers said. “What I love most about Cameron would be the small classes, and the one-on-one connection each student gets with their professors.”

The sports and exercise science major said adjusting to life and athletics at the college level isn’t too hard, and if you place an emphasis on your classroom work you will be thankful by the end of the semester.

“I’m still learning, but if there was one thing I could tell anyone it would be put your classes first and stay on top of what you are there to do, but don’t forget to enjoy it. College is a short time of your life just like sports, so if you stress, and dig yourself in a hole of schoolwork, you won’t enjoy the experience that will go by in the blink of an eye. I have almost finished my first year of college and I feel like I just started,” said Myers.

As a student-athlete, Myers is focused on her responsibilities in the classroom and on the field for the softball team.

“As a college athlete you are with your teammates every day basically, and I really love that we all are well-bonded and work together in whatever it may be,” Myers said. “For the athletic program, I love how close knit the players are, and how much the coaches are willing to work with you.”

In her free time, Myers said she enjoys being around friends and family.
