Atlus’ Carlee Fort Knows How to Lead – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

There are moments during a person’s life that will stand out to them for a long time. For some, it could be a personal accomplishment, while for others it could just be something interesting that happened. The moment that Carlee Fort will not forget is not just obtaining something that she had worked for, but also making school history.

“I would have to say that my highlight moment was when I found out that I was named drum major at the end of my freshman year,” she recalled. “It was so exciting to learn that I would be the first female sophomore drum major.”

Carlee is now a senior at Altus High School. She has been the drum major for three years and has been in the band for a total of seven years. She plays the trombone and baritone during concert season. Fort serves as the student body president at Altus and is also a Link Crew leader. She already has her sights set on her future after she graduates high school.

“I will be attending the University of Oklahoma in the fall,” she said. “I am going to major in biology with an emphasis on Pre-Dental. I am also going to be a part of the President’s Leadership Class at OU. It will be their 62nd class of leaders so seeing what I will be involved in is very exciting. I am motivated by being a leader. Being a leader helps me to feel like I am making a difference in the world.”

While she has put in a lot of effort and time, Carlee says that there is no way that she would be where she is today without two special people.

“I look up to my brother and sister-in-law a lot,” she stated. “They took my twin brother and me in when my mother couldn’t take care of us. This was a big step for two 22-year-olds. They have given up so much to take care of us and my niece and nephew.”
