There are some athletes that play a sport or sports just to be a part of the team. For others, their involvement is more for the love of the game and the sheer enjoyment of competition. Kamryn Bearden says that she loves to play her sports and every day presents her with an opportunity to make herself a better athlete.
“There is a lot that goes into being a successful athlete,” she said. “Waking up every morning just knowing what sport I have that day and what I can do to better myself before I get there. It also takes lots of hard work in practice.”
Bearden attends Lindsay High School where she is a junior. She is a member of the softball, basketball, track, competitive cheer, and sideline cheer teams. Over her career, Kamryn has had a lot of memorable moments as an athlete, but she says that she has a few that stand out as her favorites.
“My freshman year we won third in the state in competitive cheer,” she said. “I was a state qualifier for track, an all-district shortstop, and this year our basketball team is heading to the area in the basketball playoffs. I really enjoy competing alongside my teammates and the time we are able to spend together.”
Throughout her life, Bearden says that she has had a number of people that have had an influence on her both as a person and as an athlete. Out of all of them, she says that there are a few that have had a bigger impact.
“My parents are the biggest influences on my life,” she said. “They teach me to be my best and work my hard no matter the circumstances. Another person that really impacted my life was my third-grade teacher, Ruthann Patrick. She taught me that it is about hard work and not about the grade. She always put a smile on my face.”
Along with sports, Kamryn is also a member of the Future Farmers of America, the National Honor Society, the student council, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a member of The Loft at Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay.
