Hobart’s Faith Funkhouser – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Cattlemens Bank

Senior Faith Funkhouser is a three-sport athlete at Hobart High School where she competes on the softball, basketball, and golf teams. In the fall, Funkhouser is a two-year starter in the outfield in fast-pitch softball. This season, the Lady Bearcats were named Academic State Champions and made back-to-back state tournament appearances in 2020 and 2021.

On the basketball court, Funkhouser is the team’s three-point specialist. As a 40 percent 3-point shooter, Funkhouser is called upon by coach Richard Carney when his team needs a 3-pointer. Funkhouser hit a pair of threes against their rival, Frederick, earlier this season to turn the game around for Hobart.

“We ended up winning by 14 points, but we were down when she knocked down those two shots,” Carney said. “Faith has hit a lot of big shots for us in crucial situations. She does not complain about anything and supports her teammates. As a coach, it has been a privilege to have coached her the last couple of years.”

Outside of athletics, Funkhouser is the FCCLA president, senior class vice president, and is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Teachers of America, student council, and National Honor Society.

“Faith is a mentor outside the school with her school clubs and her dedication on mission trips and charity events through her church has been remarkable,” Carney said. “She is a perfect role model for our younger girls at Hobart Schools and will greatly be missed after graduation.”

Upon graduation, Funkhouser plans to attend Oklahoma State University where she will join her older brother, Clay, who is currently a junior and she plans to study nutritional sciences while in Stillwater. Funkhouser credits her mom, Sherri, and dad, Dusty, for all her success in and out of athletics.

“They always have confidence in me and have always supported me,” Funkhouser said.
