BOYS

Coach: Derrick Bull

20-21 Record: 13-10

The Weatherford Eagles advanced to the Area tournament last season, before being knocked out of the playoffs. After being hit hard by graduation, head coach Derrick Bull says his squad has a lot of potential this year. “We return just one starter off of last season’s team,” Bull said. “With the leading scorer returning and an extremely talented Freshman class coming in, the potential is there for an even deeper run this season.” Playing at guard, Cade Jennings (6-2, Sr.) led the team in scoring last season with 19.2 points per game. He is an explosive scorer who can score at all three levels as well as an excelling free throw shooter. CJ Nickson (6-5, Fr.) is extremely skilled and can play inside and outside. Even as a freshman, he is already receiving interest from some division one schools. A new addition to the team will be Tai Vu (6-0, Sr.), who moved in at the end of last season and will be relied on for senior leadership. Forward Nate Reherman (6-6, So.) is long and athletic, an excellent rebounder, and a great defender. Tate Sage (6-2, Fr.) is a knockdown shooter who is expected to come in as a freshman and fill a large role as a ball-handler and scorer. Senior Caden Henderson (6-0, Sr.) is a good player and an all-around great kid.

GIRLS

Coach: Grant Givens

20-21 Record: 23-5

Last season was a great one for the Lady Eagles, advancing to the state semifinals. Head coach Grant Givens says that his squad is primed to make another run at the gold ball. “We are returning two of our top three scorers from last season’s team,” Givens said. “We will be replacing a large and talented group that graduated, but I think that we will be one of the top eight teams in 4A.” The guard duo of Addy Hoffman (5-9, Jr.) and Jordan Hoffman (5-7, Jr.) both had a big season last year, combining to average 28.1 points per game. They come into this season ready to expand their impact and be leaders for the team. Hunter Bayless (5-9, Sr.) is an outstanding player that works hard and leads by example every day. She averaged about six points per game a year ago and has worked hard to have a bigger presence this season. Katen Daniel (5-8, Jr.) is a great all-around kid that has put in a lot of work in the offseason. Kennedy Stewart (6-1, Jr.) and Peyton Foster (5-9, Sr.) are two other Lady Eagle players that look to have a stronger presence on the floor this season.
