Big Pasture’s Carson Coats – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Rusty England State Farm Agent

By Derrick Smith

There is a lot of work that has to be done in order to be successful at anything. In most cases, success is not just handed out, but instead it has to be earned. Carson Coats knows what it takes and it is more than just what is required.

“I have put in a lot of practice to get to where I am today,” he said. “That’s more than just the practice that the coach requires. It also means practicing at home and away from school. The more work you are willing to put in, the better you will be. I just love to get out there and play so any opportunity I get, I am going to take.”

Coats is a senior at Big Pasture High School. He plays small forward on the Rangers’  basketball team and he also plays baseball. He played in his first basketball game when he was in the fifth grade and he has loved the game ever since.

Big Pasture head boys basketball coach, Trevor Smith, says that Carson is a great kid and athlete and they are looking for big things again this season.

“Coats averaged 17 points per game last season,” the coach said. “He is a very athletic guard that plays bigger than his size. He’s an outstanding finisher, especially in the open court.

He is a very fast, athletic guard that plays bigger than his size and is an outstanding finisher.”

Coats says that he has had some great role models in his life over the years that have helped shape him into, not only the athlete that he is, but also the person.

“One of my biggest role models would have to be my youth minister,” he stated. “He takes time out of his day to always show up and support us. Another big role model for me would be my coach. He has taught me a lot of life lessons and is always teaching me about basketball.”

Along with playing sports, Carson is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmer of America, and the National Honor Society.
