Coach: Cache Hill
20-21 Record: 17-10
The Bulldogs reached the Area tournament last season and come into this season ready to make a deeper run this year. Head coach Cache Hill says that his squad was tested with a strong schedule and that should be an asset this season. “We played arguably one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A last year,” Hill said. “Jenks, Webster, Crossings Christian, Community Christian, Weatherford, and Hooker were just a few. We were also plagued with injuries and quarantines. But the positive is that our underclassmen had to play big minutes in big games and return for this season with a lot of experience. We return three starters and I feel we should be a top ten team and should be poised for another long playoff run.” Ethan Ventris (6-0, Sr.) made huge improvements during the offseason and looks to be a team leader this season. Dylan Warden (6-1, Sr.) is a great defensive athlete that will be a key player for the Bulldogs this season. A solid leader with great character, Nate Dacus (6-2, Sr.) is able to score inside and outside. He started a majority of games last season and will be relied on this year. Last season’s sixth man Kade Anthony (6-0, Jr.) is a guard that can do it all. He is a great passer and leader on the floor. Reed McMurtrey (6-0, So.) had an outstanding freshman last season and is expected to have a strong sophomore season.
GIRLS
Coach: Leshia Brummell
20-21 Record: 14-11
The Lady Bulldogs enter the 2021-2022 basketball season ready to make some noise. Head coach Leshia Brummell says that while her team has some youth, she expects them to surprise some people and possibly make a deep postseason run. “Our team should have a pretty solid season,” Brummell said. “We bring back three returning starters from last season. We are fairly young, but we are also athletic and competitive. I am looking for some really good things from this group of ladies.” Emily Martinez (5-9, Jr.) averaged 11.7 points and 7.8 rebounds a year ago, leading the team in both categories. She is a hard worker and looks to be at the top of the list for points and rebounds again this season. Senior guard Natalie Carballo tallied almost nine points last season while shooting 32 percent from behind the three-point arc. She will be leaned on to continue dropping threes and helping her team offensively. Seeing a lot of time as a freshman a year ago, Reydon Salazar (So.) expects to see a lot of game time this season. Layne Reh is a lockdown defensive player and solid rebounder. She is always willing to do the dirty work to help the team be successful.
