Amber-Pocasset Panthers Basketball Preview – Presented By First National Bank And Trust

BOYS
Coach: Aaron Garrett
20-21 Record: 17-10

Excitement is a word that head coach Aaron Garrett uses to describe what to expect from Am-Po Panthers for the upcoming season. “We have seven seniors who will all contribute and help build off of last year’s area tournament,” Garret said. “Their roster offers more athleticism and length than we have had in the past so we are excited to see what ends up happening in the upcoming season.” The Panthers bring back a slew of talent, including Kyle Williams (6-2, Sr.) who averaged 12 points per game and earned first team all-conference in Grady County. Joining him are Caiden Thomason (5-9, Sr.), Tanner Croskey (5-9, Sr.), Tait Loggins (5-9, Sr.), Karson Wilson (6-2, Sr.), Conner Black (6-2, Sr.), Jacob Tampkins (6-0, Sr.), Carson Howe (6-0, So.), Ian Guthrie (6-1, So.), and Tyler Shaw (5-9, So.). All of these players will look to make immediate impacts for the Panthers. Howe looks to add to his success he had during his freshman year, using his defensive talents along with his willingness to get others involved on the offense. Croskey is a player that uses his toughness and heart to defend at the highest level on the court. Thomason is a crafty point guard that is a natural leader, using his abilities to get his whole team involved. The Panthers will look to prove themselves in the upcoming season as one of the top teams in the Grady County conference.

GIRLS
Coach: Bo Thomason
20-21 Record: 23-5

The Am-Po Lady Panthers return to the court with optimism in the upcoming season after a state tournament berth in 2020-2021. The Panthers return two players in Devynn Harris (5-8, Sr.) and Jacie White (5-3, Sr.) who have started since their freshman year, and look to lead a squad that has some new faces, as well as some key role players from last year. Harris returns after averaging 15 points and six rebounds last season. Abbie Savage (5-8, Jr.), Teague Muncy (5-8, Fr.), Ainslee McComas (5-6, Fr.), Gracen Hicks (5-8, Fr.), Faith Carpenter (5-5, So.), Kylee Schat (5-6, Jr.), Brooke Brown (5-7, So.), and Allison Stewart (5-6, Jr.) all will contribute to the success of the Panthers in the upcoming season. Jacie White gets praise for her defense and will look to lead the Panthers on defense. Carpenter is known by her coaches for her hard workday in and day out and looks to be a role model for the rest of her team. Watch for the Am-Po Panthers to make a run at another state tournament berth.
